What are XAUUSD pivot points?

XAUUSD pivot points are support and resistance levels calculated from the previous period's high, low and close. The classic pivot is (High + Low + Close) ÷ 3; the first resistance is R1 = 2 × Pivot − Low and the first support is S1 = 2 × Pivot − High. Gold traders use daily pivots for intraday trades and weekly or monthly pivots for swing trades.

Worked example

If yesterday's gold candle had a high of 4,230.40, a low of 4,141.10 and a close of 4,152.75, the classic pivot is (4,230.40 + 4,141.10 + 4,152.75) ÷ 3 = 4,174.75. R1 = 2 × 4,174.75 − 4,141.10 = 4,208.40 and S1 = 2 × 4,174.75 − 4,230.40 = 4,119.10.

Which pivot type should I use for gold?

Where to get the high, low and close

Use your broker's previous daily, weekly or monthly candle. Most gold brokers close the daily candle at 5:00 PM New York time, but some use a different server time, which changes the high, low and close slightly — use the same chart you trade from. For live pivots on six timeframes without typing anything, see the trend panel on the homepage.

Frequently asked questions

What is the pivot point formula for XAUUSD?

The classic pivot point is (previous High + Low + Close) ÷ 3. Resistance R1 = 2 × Pivot − Low, support S1 = 2 × Pivot − High, R2 = Pivot + (High − Low) and S2 = Pivot − (High − Low).

Which pivot points are best for gold?

Classic daily pivots are the most widely watched for XAUUSD, which makes them useful reference levels. Camarilla levels suit intraday range trading, and Fibonacci pivots suit traders who already use Fibonacci ratios.

Do pivot points work on XAUUSD?

Pivot points don't predict price, but gold often reacts around widely watched levels because many traders place orders there. Treat them as areas to watch for a reaction, not guaranteed turning points.

Should I use daily or weekly pivots for gold?

Use daily pivots for intraday and short-term trades, and weekly or monthly pivots for swing trades lasting several days or more.
